LIFE ADMIN
Use this as a starting checklist, not a substitute for official requirements. Confirm deadlines and eligibility with the responsible agency.
Ask management about move-in reservations, elevator access, required mover insurance, parking, deliveries, recycling, pet rules, and emergency contacts. Ask how rented vehicles, guest vehicles, and your own vehicle should be registered. Confirm which utilities are included before opening accounts. Check which cable and internet providers serve your building. Some condominiums have a designated provider or an included service package, so ask management before signing up.
Moving from another state and changing an address within Florida are different processes. Check FLHSMV promptly for the deadlines, documents, insurance, and vehicle registration requirements that apply to you.
Florida new-resident requirements ↗Brickell is easy to get around without a car. The Metromover is free and connects Brickell to Downtown and Omni. The Metrorail Brickell station links you to the airport, Coconut Grove, and beyond. For short trips, try bike share or walk and ride The Underline, the linear park running south from Brickell. Ask your building about guest parking and resident parking rules before your first visitor arrives.
Plan your trip with Miami-Dade Transit ↗Use USPS for mail forwarding. Separately update your employer, banks, insurers, healthcare providers, subscriptions, and delivery accounts. Mail forwarding does not update every account.

Miami-Dade voter registration ↗If you own your unit and live in it as your permanent home, you may qualify for Florida's homestead exemption, which can lower your property taxes and limit future increases. You must own and live in the property as of January 1, and the application is due to the Miami-Dade Property Appraiser by March 1. Renters do not need to apply.

For off-leash play, use the City park directory to confirm current dog-run locations, hours, and rules before you go. Bring bags and water, and follow posted leash requirements.

Find a nearby pharmacy and urgent care, and save your management and front-desk contacts in your phone. Keep a short list of the numbers you may need in a hurry, from building security to the police non-emergency line. Explore schools connected to BHA and public-school resources. Compare admissions, age groups, tuition, availability, and daily travel directly with each school. Inclusion is not a school ranking or a guarantee of admission.
Check the school assignment for your exact address with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Ask about enrollment documents, school choice, transportation, and application deadlines. A nearby school is not automatically your assigned school.
